Clare Rewcastle Brown

Founder

Clare was born and brought up in the East Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah and the region remains close to her heart.  As a British journalist she has written and campaigned against deforestation and the abuse of indigenous rights by lawless local officials over the past decade and latterly worked to reveal the federal government corruption underpinning those problems; in particular through exposing the global scandal surrounding the 1MDB development fund, currently recognised as the largest kleptocracy case ever unravelled [The Sarawak Report - www.sarawakreport.org]. This  scandal triggered the first ever defeat for Malaysia's ruling Barisan Nasional government, which had held power since independence until the 14th General Election of May 9th 2018. Clare is now re-focusing on the issue that she believes matters most for the people of Borneo and for everyone else, which is reforesting our planet
